Pablo Atchugarry was born in Montevideo, Uruguay, on August 23, 1954.
Atchugarry’s first personal exhibition was held in the Civic Room in Montevideo in 1972, followed two years later by his first exhibition abroad in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
At the end of the 70’s, he made several trips to France, Spain and Italy, where he held his first personal exhibition in Lecco. In 1979, he discovered marble as a thoroughly fascinating material, sculpting his first piece in Carrara, La Lumière. . Although he returned regularly to his native land, in 1982 he decided to settle in Lecco,.
Atchugarry’s work has been features in several solo and group exhibition at Gary Nader gallery. Among them are Pablo Atchugarry - One Man show at Gary Nader fine art, Coral Gables, FL. (2005) and “Sueños Infinitos” at Gary Nader Art Centre, Wynwood Arts Disctric, Miami (2008).
Since 1989, his sculptural poetic has caused Atchugarry to express himself through monumental works, which are now located in many public spaces throughout Europe and Latin America, other works are enriching important private and public collections.
In July 2002, Pablo Atchugarry received the Michelangelo Award in Carrara, in recognition of his artistic career.
In 2003, Atchugarry represented Uruguay in the 50° International Exhibition of the Visual Arts at the Venice Biennale with an installation of eight pieces on Carrara marble and Grey Bardiglio marble titled “Dreaming of Peace”.
Pablo Atchugarry currently lives and works in Lecco, Italy, and Manantiales, Uruguay.
