Leonora Carrington

1917 - 2011, British/Mexican

Leonora Carrington was a British-Mexican artist, Surrealist painter, and novelist born in Lancashire, England on April 6, 1917.
Carrington came into contact with Surrealism through her lover, the Surrealist painter Max Ernst (1891 - 1976).
Carrington had a passionate interest in the occult; many allusions to agnostic doctrines appear in her work, as do references to techniques of prognostication and to ancient Celtic mythology.
Carrington lived most of her adult life in Mexico City, and was one of the last surviving participants in the Surrealist movement of the 1930.
Leonora Carrington died on 25 May 2011, aged 94, in Mexico City.
