Masters of the Museum: From Myth to Motion presents a new thematic reading of the Nader Museum collection through fourteen artists who transformed the visual language of Latin America and the wider art world. Moving beyond a strictly chronological narrative, the exhibition unfolds across five interconnected territories—cultural memory; myth and ritual; the body and psychological space; geometry; and color and movement. Together, these chapters reveal how inherited histories, ancestral symbols and lived experience became the foundation for radically modern ways of seeing.
From Diego Rivera, Rufino Tamayo, Amelia Peláez, Oswaldo Vigas and Oswaldo Guayasamín to Wifredo Lam, Roberto Matta, Fernando de Szyszlo, Fernando Botero, Guillermo Kuitca, Emilio Pettoruti, Joaquín Torres-García, Carlos Cruz-Diez and Jesús Rafael Soto, the exhibition traces a passage from figuration and ritual memory to abstraction, spatial tension, optical experience and kinetic perception. Each artist speaks in a distinct voice; together, they resist any single definition of Latin American art. Masters of the Museum invites visitors to encounter the collection as a living conversation—one that moves from myth to motion and continues to change the way we see.
